- Articles should be written with endnotes and bibliography formulated according to the current edition of Chicago Manual of Style, which can be accessed at https://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/home.html. Authors are also encouraged to consult the Notes and bibliography style reference at the Chicago website, https://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org/tools_citationguide/citation-guide-1.html. Submission not formulated according to these style recommendations will be returned to the author for correction prior to any submission for peer review.
- When contacting the editors of the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy about the possible submission of an entry your email should include the following to facilitate quick communication:
1. Your name
2. Educational/Academic Credentials (degree, university affiliation)
3. Proposed/Provisional title of your entry
4. Tentative timeline for completion (a realistic date of completion is critical here; six months is encouraged, but less than 12 months). The review process begins with the submission of the entry. - Submission of an entry to the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy should include the following information in the email:

- Your name
- Your contact information (email address for correspondence, postal address)
- Educational credentials (degree, university affiliation)
- Provisional title of the entry
- The Encyclopedia entry, written/referenced according to Chicago Manual of Style Guidelines (see above) and prepared for blind review
- As noted above, all submission should be prepared for blind review (i.e. the entry itself should include the title of the entry and the submission itself, without any identifying author information. If end notes might suggest the identity of the author the author’s name should be removed from the endnotes as well. This information will be included after the completion of the review process.
- Length: The Internet Encyclopedia of Personalism encourages scholars with doctoral level background (though candidates who have advanced degrees but have not completed a doctorate in philosophy or a related field will certainly be considered). Articles should have a length of 6,000 to 15,000 words (exceptions may be made in advance in response to specific content areas). Authors should consult the list of desired articles on the IEP website, as well as the list of articles already reserved/in progress to avoid duplication.
- General format: Format for an Internet Encyclopedia of Personalism will vary somewhat due to the particular content area. The following two formats are suggested as guides to ensure that a topic is adequately covered:
For a content topic:
- Title
- Brief Abstract/Overview of the content (250-500 words) to give the reader a sense of the content
- Table of contents
- Definitions of Important Terms and Concepts
- Important topics/themes in the area being discussed.
- Endnotes
- Bibliography
- Recommendations for further reading
- Author name and contact information
For an entry on a specific personalist philosopher:
- Title
- Brief Abstract/Overview of the content (250-500 words) to give the reader a sense of the content. If possible, include a copyright-free photo that can be posted with the entry
- Table of contents
- Biographical Information about the subject (Dates of lifespan, place of birth, relevant biographical information, education, major works
- Discussion of the person’s main philosophical (or other) contributions, their influences and influence on other philosophers/areas of knowledge
- Endnotes
- Bibliography
- Recommendations for further reading
- Author name and contact information
- Writing Style
The entry should be written in formal academic style, though in a fashion that is understandable for both the academic and nonacademic reader. Remember throughout that you are an expert writing for a diverse audience of different ages
